The clients for this project consist of a shoemaker and his apprentice. They wish to establish a shoe repair workshop at the Harbour Arm in Margate. The design of this living space and workshop was influenced by the cultural-led regeneration undertaken in Margate. Inspired by the UN Studio, Möbius House, I was able to use the activity circulation to organise the facilities within.
Overall view of Shoe Repair Shop
The shoe workshop and the living spaces are encased inside a metallic grid-like exoskeleton. This supports the workshop & accommodation block, but also the ramps that help to connect these two facilities together. The ramps are also a means to travel across the workshop and the living spaces.

The lower floor in the outer block is where the shoemaker presents and displays his crafted shoes. There is also an open performance space for anyone to play music.
The upper floor in the outer block is where the repair workshop is; this is where the shoemaker craft customised pairs of shoes for his clients.
The inner block is set at the Harbour Arm, where the shoemaker and his apprentice lives. This block consists of a kitchen and two en-suite bedrooms.
