Fado music plays a vital cultural element in Portugal, especially in the area of Lisbon called Mouraria. The songs performed emphasise the life of the poor mixed with the emotional sentiment of resignation and a sense of loss, similar to old English ‘folk’ song content.

Since the launch of a two-year urban regeneration programme in 2011, Fado played a key role, promoted guided tours, exhibitions, festivals, and additional Fado performance venues. The proposal of a new Fado performance venue within Rua dos Lagares would help revitalise this area and Fado music and talent within the community.

As a way of incorporating the traditional element of a Fado venue, the building includes a mini bar, the main bar, and a restaurant in each of which the audience can enjoy the relaxed atmospheric experience.
In addition, the building houses both a recording studio and an instrument repair workshop. Here instruments can be made and customised. This provides employment opportunities for skilled artisans.
