Cycling safety along canals is a recurring issue. Many reasons make cycling along canals dangerous such as:
–The lack of room for pedestrians, and cycling to coincide
–The lack of acoustic communication
–Speeding
–Lack of visual signals, such as bright reflective studs
–Lack of communal areas for cyclists to stop and rest
–Spatial awareness
–Bike maintenance
In response to the protest of cycling safety on the Hertford Union Canal, a bike maintenance repair shop was proposed to ensure that bicycles were safely repaired for cyclists travelling along this canal in East London.
